Almost every year in the beginning of October we head down to Albuquerque to the balloon fiesta. We have always drove down, but since this year my grandmother was recovering from a surgery, we flew down. Our first flight was at 11 ish and we got in about 2 so it was nice that the trip down there wasn’t very long.
Once we got there we headed to the motel to relax and then we went to the best restaurant in town, Sadies. The food must have had something in them not good because mother and I were sick but we still went. We didn’t fly Thursday or Friday because of the weather. Saturday was mass accession, when all the balloons took off from the field. Saturday was a good flight. I flew with my dad that day and it was beautiful. Imagine fling over a city right by the mountains and just barley grassing the clouds. Then landing softly back to the earth. The ride back to the field is boring but at the field is where the party beginns.
First we go shopping after dad has gotten back from refueling and also get something to eat. They usually get a breakfast burrito and I get a smoked turkey leg. Then we just relax on the field, until I get bored and want to do something. So I just fly a kite, play catch with the football or with the vorte-X. Then after a while we go back to the hotel and rest for the evening.
In the evening we watch the glow. There is either the glowdio, which is just the special shapes, or the regular balloons. That happens for an half an hour then are the best fireworks in the Nation. They have these awesome main fireworks then the have the “side show”. This video will show you what it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzjucdLCjD8. After that we go back to the hotel and the next day it happens all over. Sunday was the last day of fiesta and it was a special one. My mother does like to fly after the accident, but that’s another story. She finally wanted fly and I also flew so the whole family was in the air.
When we got back to the field, we just stayed there for a while, then we were done we went back to the hotel to pack up and move out. Now it is a sixteen hour drive from there to my home, so you would think it would be boring. Well, when you have a TV in the car that helps, plus I got a load of homework to keep me occupied. The homework is the worst part of the vacation because you have a ton. When we got back I still wasn’t done.
Well, in a nutshell that is my vacation. I leave you with the balloonist prayor.

May the winds welcome you with softness. May the sun bless you with it’s warm hands. May you fly so high and so well that God joins you in laughter and set you back into the loving arms of Mother Earth
